(A) The experimental set up, a split-plot design with fish introduced into 3 of the 6 cages, and three treatments in each cage near the surface (S) and the same three treatments at 1.5 m depth (B), plus a Nymphaeaceae plant transplanted into each cage. Treatments were assigned positions at random for each cage. The three treatments were: lake sediment, woody detritus, and transplanted Charophyte plants.
