R values from one-way (summer) and two-way (winter) ANOSIM tests in Dorset (Rivers Frome and Piddle) and London (Rivers Rib and Lee). The one-way ANOSIM tests for differences in community composition between heads and tails of riffles at one depth (35 cm) during summer. The two-way ANOSIM test for differences with depth (20 and 35 cm), in addition to the distribution of fauna between heads and tails of riffles. Significant values (P < 0.05) are in bold.
