Résumé

Un rappel bibliographique sur le marquage à l'azote liquide est présenté avant la description détaillée d'un appareil à quatre fers marqueurs et de ses performances lors de l'utilisation. L'appareillage complet est d'un prix abordable et le prix de revient du marquage d'un poisson est de 0,03 Franc. Après comparaison de lots marqué et non marqué de jeunes saumons atlantiques d'élevage, cette technique s'est avérée peu ou pas traumatisante sur une période d'observation de 38 jours. Aucune mortalité due au marquage n'est constatée, et aucune différence de croissance significative n'est mise en évidence ; toutefois, une présomption de ralentissement de la croissance lors de la période de cicatrisation est envisagée. La smoltification, et donc l'époque de migration, ne sont pas retardées par la manipulation. Tous les individus cryomarqués ont conservé leur marque sur cette courte période et la lisibilité augmente entre la troisième (76 p. 100) et la cinquième semaine (85 p. 100) ; elle décroît ensuite alors que la smoltification s'avance. Les symboles demeurent nettement lisibles à condition de maintenir le poisson dans l'eau pour effectuer la lecture.

Abstract

A bibliographic review on liquid nitrogen cold branding is presented as well as the detailed description of an apparatus with four branding tools and its working performances. The complete gear is of a reasonable price and the cost price of marking amounts to 0.03 F for one fish. Two batches of hatchery reared young Atlantic salmons were compared, one with unmarked fishes and the other one with marked fishes ; this technique appeared then as little or not at ail traumatizing over an observation period of 38 days. No mortality due to branding was noted and no significant difference in growth was pointed out. However, presumption of slowing down in.growth during the cicatrization period is considered. Smoltification and consequently the migration period are not slowed down by fish handling. All cold branded fishes have kept their mark during this short time and its legibility increases between the 3 rd (76 p. 100) and the 5 th (85 p. 100) week. It then decreases as the smoltification is going on. Symbols are readable if the fish is kept in water during the reading.
